The Royal of Creative Western Confectionery was founded in 1973 in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
The signature product, Brandy Cake, created by founder Fumio Yakushiji (the first class technician in western confectionery), has been handed down from generation to generation since its creation in 1956.

It is still made using the same traditional methods and is loved by many.
The brandy cake and Camus, Père Magloire and Rémy Martin have collaborated for the first time in the world to create a new product called yakushiji.

CAMUS

A French family-owned cognac manufacturer founded in 1863, continuing the tradition of the Camus family for five generations.
It is characterised by its rich fruitiness and delicate aromas and is made from carefully selected grapes, mainly from the Grande Champagne region.
It is recognised worldwide for its philosophical aroma and elegant taste.

Père Magloire

A long-established Calvados brand from Normandy, France, founded in 1821.
Single distilled from cider made from selected apples from Normandy, it is characterised by a rich taste that combines Authenticité (authenticity) and Raffinement (refinement).
It is known as an authentic brand loved by Calvados connoisseurs.

Traditional production methods handed down in the Yakushiji family that have remained unchanged for half a century.

The brandy cakes at Royal Creative Confectionery are made by a craftsman who carefully soaks each freshly baked pound cake with brandy by hand.
The cakes are then wrapped in silver paper and placed in a box for slow maturation, resulting in a unique taste with a distinct aroma.
This is the ultimate luxury product, as only 18 brandy cakes can be made from a 720 ml bottle of brandy.

The brandy cakes from the creative confectionery Royal have the characteristic of ‘ripening’, much like brandy, and their taste changes depending on when they are eaten.
The pleasure of waiting for the ‘ripening’ process is one of the attractions of this brandy cake.
It is known that the flavour is enhanced by ripening the cake by turning it upside down over a week or two, and is popularly known among connoisseurs as ‘growing brandy cake’.

Immediately after production, the brandy cake is ‘fluffy’ on the inside with brandy on the surface and water (brandy syrup) on the bottom.
Over time, the cake matures and the centre changes from ‘fluffy’ to ‘fluffy-moist’.

The brandy cake matures day by day, and by repeatedly turning the box upside down every 1 to 2 weeks, the (brandy syrup) that has soaked into the bottom is slowly brought down to the top.
By turning the cake upside down over time, the aroma and deliciousness travel around the center of the brandy cake over and over again, giving it a fluffy and moist texture and will continue to do so.
※ In the cold winter months, the ripening process is slower.

※ Please keep unopened and work at room temperature. When the box is opened, it must be refrigerated and consumed within one week.

About the package design

The package designs for ‘yakushiji‘ were created by Mai Ohta.
The ‘Camus‘ brandy cake depicts the freshness of grapes,
while the ‘Père Magloire‘ brandy cake features ripe, sweet apples.
The ‘Assemblage‘, a special blend of brandy, expresses a deep blend of fruits and flowers.

Mai Ohta

Born 1980 in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Living in Finland since 2003.
After completing a Master's degree in fashion design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University),
she worked as a designer at Marimekko in Finland from 2010 to 2023.
Currently, she develops products under her own brand MAIOHTA
and collaborates with various companies involved in a wide range of product development.
